Craigslist has a major advantage over other national advertising opportunities in that it’s community specific. So, if you’re looking to buy golf clubs, a golf club bag, or an instruction manual on DVD, check Craigslist first. You may find something that’s close enough for you to go view it, before you commit yourself. If you do decide to buy the item, you’ll have no problem in getting it home.
Using Craigslist
The Craigslist site is organized by city. If you live in or near one of the larger cities in the US, you will find it on Craigslist. Start your bargain hunting by finding the nearest city on Craigslist.org.
Browse: You can browse the For Sale: sporting category for golf equipment. For example, the Denver link is http://denver.Craigslist.org/spo/.
Search: On the right side of every city homepage, there’s a search box.
- Type “golf cart” or whatever is you’re looking for in the search box.
- Select sale/buy from the dropdown menu below the search box..
- Click the search button and view the search results.
The search result will list any golf carts that are for sale in your area. There may be a few miscellaneous items too, like people looking for other people to play golf with and a whole string of garage sales. They will all be nearby though, so you won’t be confronted with a list of stuff that’s on the other side of the continent.
Your search terms need to be somewhat precise. If it’s a nine iron you’re looking for, you’ll need to type in “golf club” because “nine iron” will generate all sorts of things like weight lifting equipment. Be specific: too generalized an query is likely to return a very frustrating result. For example, searching “golf equipment” sale/buy is likely to produce a list of Volkswagen parts and accessories.
Check the Market Value
Before you contact the seller, check the market value of any used golf clubs on the PGA.com Value Guide. Other equipment and accessories can be checked on Ebay, Priceline, or Shopping.com.
